Supported Countries and SMS Rules
Etisia currently supports SMS appointment reminders in 6 countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, and Slovenia. The core workflow is the same across all markets, but sender type, reply behavior, and compliance expectations vary by country. This page explains what changes — and what does not.

Where Etisia currently supports SMS reminders
Start with the operational questions that matter most: Is my country supported? What kind of sender will clients see? Can clients reply by text? How do opt-outs work?
| Country | Supported | Sender type | Can clients reply? | Opt-out path |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Yes | Numeric sender | Limited reply behavior | STOP and in-message link |
| Canada | Yes | Numeric sender | Limited reply behavior | STOP and in-message link |
| United Kingdom | Yes | Alphanumeric sender ID | No text reply | In-message link |
| Australia | Yes | Alphanumeric sender ID | No text reply | In-message link |
| Ireland | Yes | Alphanumeric sender ID | No text reply | In-message link |
| Slovenia | Yes | Alphanumeric sender ID | No text reply | In-message link |

Numeric sender (United States, Canada)
In these markets, reminders arrive from a phone number. Recipients can use keyword-based opt-out flows like STOP, and Etisia's privacy policy says opt-out requests are processed immediately. Keep expectations conservative here: this page describes the operational behavior, not a full conversational inbox.
Alphanumeric sender ID (United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, Slovenia)
In these markets, reminders appear from a sender name rather than a numeric phone number. That looks cleaner from a branding perspective, but it also means normal text replies are not the main response path. The cancellation or opt-out action should happen through the link in the message.
Different sender types, same job: get the reminder in front of the client in a usable format.
Consent and opt-out: the practical version
Etisia's own Terms say the business using the service is responsible for obtaining the necessary consent from clients to receive SMS reminders. Etisia's Terms and Privacy also say recipients can opt out, and the service must honor those opt-out requests. That gives you the practical baseline: only message clients you have a valid basis to message, make sure your booking flow captures consent appropriately, respect opt-outs immediately, and do not use this page as a substitute for legal advice.
For most businesses, appointment reminders sit closer to transactional service messaging than promotional campaigns — but the exact compliance standard still depends on your country, your industry, and how you collect the client's number. If you operate in a regulated or high-sensitivity space, review your process with a qualified advisor.
Etisia is not a law firm. This page is general operational guidance, not legal advice.
What if the client's number is in a local format?
This is a common operational worry, especially for businesses that book manually or see clients from different countries. Etisia normalizes local number formats into a valid deliverable format before send. You should not need to manually rewrite every number with a country code.
- 0412 345 678 → normalized before send
- 07700 900123 → normalized before send
- (555) 123-4567 → normalized before send
What to do if your country is not listed
If your country is not listed above: contact support with your country and estimated monthly SMS volume, ask whether support is live, in rollout, or not yet available, and use the answer to decide whether to start a trial now or wait.
