What is an automated Google review request?

An automated Google review request is a short text, sent by software at a set time, that invites a client to review your business on Google. Etisia sends one after appointments in your Google Calendar that got an Etisia reminder, at the time you choose. The link opens a short page where the client picks a public Google review or a private message to you. Google review requests come with Pro at A$66 a month billed yearly (ex GST where applicable), and with the 21-day trial.

At a glance

From the text to Google in three taps
Google shows your rating beside your business in Search and Maps, so new clients see it before they call. Etisia keeps the path short: your client opens the link in the text, picks the stars and taps “Leave a Google review”. They write the review itself on Google.
One text after the appointment
After an appointment that got its reminder, your client gets one text with a link. By default that is about 90 minutes after the appointment's scheduled end in your calendar, and not at night.
You see who tapped
Etisia shows you which clients tapped the Google button. A tap isn't a review yet: what people wrote is on your Google Business Profile.
How much it costs
Included in Pro at A$66 a month billed yearly (ex GST where applicable) and in Team, after a 21-day trial. Starter doesn't include it. Each request uses an SMS from your plan.
Getting started
Sign up, connect Google Calendar and switch on review requests. Type your business name and Etisia finds your Google review link.

Google review requests in three steps

  1. Find your Google review link

Type your business name in Etisia once. It finds your Google Business Profile and takes the review link from it. You can also paste a g.page or search.google.com link.

  2. Pick the time and the text

About 15 or 90 minutes after the scheduled end, that evening between 6 and 8 pm, or the next afternoon. Then pick a ready-made text or write your own with the link in it.

  3. Confirm your clients' consent

Before Etisia sends anything, you confirm your clients agreed to a message after their visit and note how you get that consent. More on that: SMS consent.

Every step, with screenshots, is in the help centre: setting up review requests.

What your client gets: a short text with a link

This is the ready-made text new accounts start with. In Australia it begins with your business name. The link at the end opens your review page, and you can change the wording any time.

  • Your business name first. Every review text in Australia starts with your business name, so your client knows who is asking.
  • A normal text. Your client needs no app and no account.
  • Two buttons for everyone. The link opens a page with stars, then two buttons: a public Google review or a private message to you. Etisia doesn't sort clients by their stars.
  • Private messages by email. If a client would rather tell you privately, the message lands in your inbox.
  • No replies. Clients can't reply to the text. They can opt out on the review page, and then they get no more texts from you, reminders included.
  • Your wording. Pick a ready-made text or write your own with the link in it. You can also send a plain thank-you without a link.

When Etisia sends a Google review request

Review requests follow your reminders: the text only goes out after an appointment Etisia sent a reminder for. Review requests work on one Google Calendar per account. How the reminders work

The text goes out

  • after appointments that got a reminder
  • at the time you choose, counted from the appointment's scheduled end
  • not at night by default, between 10 pm and 7 am
  • from the Google Calendar you use for review requests

No request goes out if

  • the reminder wasn't sent or failed
  • the client cancelled with the cancellation link
  • the same client got a request in the last 90 days (you can change this)
  • the client opted out of your texts
  • your plan's monthly SMS allowance is used up

Questions about Google review requests by text

Anything else? Read the help on review requests.

How do I get more Google reviews from my clients?
Ask every client the same way, at a set time, with a short path to your profile. Etisia sends that request by text after Google Calendar appointments that got a reminder. Whether a client writes a review is up to them, and nobody can promise you a number.
Where do I find my Google review link?
In your Google Business Profile, under “Ask for reviews”. In Etisia you type your business name once and it takes the link for you. The link opens a short Etisia page first, then Google.
What should a Google review request text say?
Keep it short and friendly, with the link and no reward in return. In Australia the text starts with your business name. Etisia's ready-made text reads: “Beauty Studio: Hey, thanks for visiting! Can you take 10 seconds to rate us? It would mean a lot: https://eti.is/r/K7QM2X” You can change it or write your own.
Is review gating illegal?
Google's policy forbids asking only selected clients for reviews, for example the ones you expect to be pleased. The ACCC also warns businesses against asking for reviews only from customers likely to be happy. Etisia shows every client the same Google button, whatever stars they pick. This isn't legal advice.
Does Google allow automated review requests?
Yes. Google lets businesses ask real clients for reviews, by text too. It doesn't allow fake, paid or incentivised reviews, or asking only some clients.
When does my client get the text?
At the time you pick: about 15 or 90 minutes after the appointment's scheduled end in Google Calendar, that evening between 6 and 8 pm, or the next afternoon. 90 minutes is the default. If the send time falls in the quiet hours between 10 pm and 7 am, Etisia sends the text at about 8 pm instead. By default Etisia asks the same client at most once every 90 days.
Can I send review requests on WhatsApp?
No. Etisia sends review requests by SMS only. A text needs no app, so it reaches clients on any phone.
Which plans include it? Is it available in the US?
Pro at A$66 a month billed yearly (ex GST where applicable) and Team from A$249 a month billed yearly (ex GST where applicable), plus the 21-day trial. Starter doesn't include it. Each request uses an SMS from your plan, usually one, and review requests work on one Google Calendar per account. They aren't available to businesses in the US.
Can I see whether a client wrote a review?
No. Etisia shows you who tapped the Google button. Whether that became a review, you see on your Google Business Profile.
Can clients reply or opt out?
Clients can't reply to the text. The review page has an “Opt out of SMS” link: anyone who opts out gets no more texts from you, reminders included. The link in the text works for 90 days.
