Yes. Etisia asks you to confirm during setup that you have permission to text the people you remind, so tell them at booking and note how they agreed in Etisia Contacts. US dental practices should use an appropriate consent process for text reminders, document patient communication preferences, identify the practice in the message, and honor opt-out requests where required. TCPA/FCC rules can apply to automated texts, and FCC rules recognize that people can revoke consent by reasonable means.
Are appointment reminders different from marketing texts?
Yes. A reminder for an existing appointment is different from a promotional text about a discount, campaign, or new service. Promotional or marketing texts generally need more careful consent and opt-out handling. Keep appointment reminders operational and avoid mixing them with promotions.
Can dental appointment reminders be sent under HIPAA?
HHS says appointment reminders are considered part of treatment and may be made without a separate HIPAA authorization. That does not mean anything can be sent by text. Dental practices should use reasonable safeguards, limit message content, respect patient communication preferences, and consider business associate requirements when a vendor handles identifiable patient information.

Does Etisia replace Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, or another dental system?
No. Etisia is an SMS reminder add-on for Google Calendar. If your practice uses dental practice management software, Etisia works when the appointments are also in Google Calendar with the patient's mobile number. Etisia connects to Google Calendar only and does not sync directly with practice management software.
Can dental practices ask patients for Google reviews?
Not through Etisia: automatic review requests aren't available for US businesses. If you ask yourself, do not offer incentives, request a specific rating, or suggest exact wording. Google prohibits fake, paid, incentivized, or biased reviews, and FTC guidance addresses deceptive review practices. Practices operating in states such as California should also be transparent about how phone numbers and other personal information are collected and used.
