What about clients who want no contact between sessions?
Some therapy clients prefer no contact except during sessions due to transference issues, attachment styles, or past trauma. Etisia lets you mark individual clients as "reminder-free" so they don't receive texts. During intake or when setting clinical boundaries, ask: "We send appointment confirmation texts. Does that work for you?" If a client says no, respect that boundary completely. It's clinically important and builds trust.
Can SMS reminders accidentally disclose that a client is in therapy?

For clinical check-ins or resource sharing, do it during sessions or schedule a phone call. Some therapists use brief, supportive SMS after difficult sessions ("You showed real courage today—take care of yourself"), but this should be part of your clinical framework, not routine.
